Hello, I’m Friedje vanGils. I found encaustic to be a wonderful medium for experimentation and for people (like me) with a penchant for perfection and control; the encaustic artist will be hard pressed to find either! Heat, wax and pigments illustrate the beauty of opportunities born of imperfection.
My experiments started with ideas rooted in my birth country, Indonesia. Using batik stamps and drawing with hot wax on a hard surface rather than on traditional fabric, my work continues to evolve.
